2025 has been a fantastic year for the STEM Hub! From inspiring over 6,000 students across the Northern region through two dynamic STEMFest events, it’s been a year of inspiration and impact. The STEM Hub, delivered by RTC North, has played a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and industry, empowering the next generation to explore their passion for STEM.
This year, the STEM Hub has hosted 27 events, including conferences, networking meetings, competitions, hands-on workshops, career-ready sessions, and its flagship STEMFest events. Each showcasing the importance of STEM education and the exciting opportunities available for students to engage with real-world applications of science, technology, engineering, and maths.
Collaborating with The Hg Foundation and CyberFirst, this summer the team delivered a pilot ‘CyberFirst Horizons’ programme. The programme provided teenagers with foundational knowledge and practical skills in cybersecurity. With a predicated 33% growth in cyber security roles by 2030 and a growing shortage of talent in the industry, the programme directly addresses an urgent skills gap faced by employers. This programme marks a significant step forward creating a diverse and scaled pipeline of future cyber professionals and the success of the pilot has laid strong foundations for future expansion.
Two STEM NetZero events were delivered this year, including an online session that reached more than 450 schools. The event gave participants the opportunity to explore how we can build a more sustainable world and move closer to achieving net zero. Across seven inspiring sessions, industry professionals shared insights, innovations, and real‑world solutions.
In total, welcoming over 1,000 new STEM Ambassadors across the Yorkshire & Humber and North East regions, all committed to inspiring the future of STEM and making a real difference in their communities.
Dawn Ross, Liaison Coordinator at the STEM Hub comments:
“2025 was another busy year, although we have a small team we managed to pack in an incredible amount of work. None of this would have been possible without our amazing pool of STEM Ambassadors, whose enthusiasm and commitment make all the difference. As we look ahead to 2026, we’re excited to see what new opportunities and achievements the year will bring.”
As 2025 comes to a close, we extend our thanks to our STEM Ambassadors, partners, supporters, and event sponsors. Your dedication has brought STEM education to life for young people across the Northern region. We’re excited to build on this amazing progress in 2026 and continue creating opportunities that inspire the next generation.
