Every year on 23rd June, we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED). This day is dedicated to recognising the outstanding contributions of women in the field of engineering and inspiring the next generation of female engineers. At the STEM Hub, we are proud to support this important initiative, as it aligns with our commitment to STEM education and connecting it to industry.
Engineering is a field that thrives on diverse perspectives and innovative solutions. However, women remain underrepresented in many engineering disciplines. INWED shines a spotlight on the incredible achievements of women engineers and highlights the importance of gender diversity in engineering. By celebrating the successes of women in engineering, we aim to break down stereotypes, encourage young women to pursue engineering careers, and create a more inclusive and dynamic industry.
Our STEMFest events, coordinated by the STEM Hub, delivered by RTC North aim to challenge gender stereotypes by showcasing real women thriving in the engineering industry. These events are designed to inspire everyone but especially young girls, providing them with role models and encouraging them to pursue studies and careers in engineering. Through STEMFest, we hope to ignite a passion for engineering and demonstrate that this dynamic field is open to everyone.
You can get involved by supporting STEM education and becoming a STEM Ambassador. The STEM Hub runs the STEM ambassador programme for the North East and Yorkshire and Humber regions. Volunteering as a STEM Ambassador offers you the opportunity to inspire young learners by promoting STEM skills, fostering their enthusiasm for these subjects, and raising awareness about the exciting career opportunities in STEM fields.
Dawn Ross, Partner Liaison Coordinator at the STEM Hub comments “The STEM Ambassador Programme connects passionate professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with schools and communities to inspire young people. By sharing their expertise, ambassadors make STEM subjects accessible and exciting, helping to break down stereotypes and showcase diverse career opportunities. Their involvement through activities, mentorship, and talks fosters curiosity and critical skills, shaping the innovators and problem-solvers of the future.”
As we celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we invite you to join us in recognising the remarkable achievements of women engineers around the world. Let’s continue to support and empower women in engineering, ensuring that the future of engineering is bright, diverse, and inclusive. At the STEM Hub we are committed to making engineering a welcoming field for everyone! Happy International Women in Engineering Day!
