Dave Timlin is our October STEM Ambassador of the month!
Being a STEM ambassador is important because it helps bridge the gap between education and industry. By serving as mentors, role models, and educators, STEM ambassadors inspire curiosity and interest in STEM subjects, particularly among young people who may not have had previous exposure to them. They play a crucial role in making STEM subjects more accessible and relatable by sharing their personal experiences and explaining real-world applications. This not only fosters a greater understanding of the importance of STEM in our everyday lives but also encourages students to pursue these subjects, potentially leading to more diverse and skilled professionals in STEM careers in the future.
Dave is our STEM Ambassador for this month, although Dave has been a STEM Ambassador for less than a year, he has already made a remarkable impact!
Dave has 37 years of experience under his belt and currently works for Amco Giffen, which offers engineering and construction services. This includes 10 years in mining and 27 in the rail sector as a Contractors Responsible Engineer. Undoubtably, Dave brings a wealth of knowledge to the role of an ambassador, and he is passionate about helping young people, particularly from underprivileged, special needs, and minority communities, through industry visits and educational opportunities.
As a Social Value and Volunteer Lead, he works to improve learning environments across schools, colleges, and community hubs. His active involvement allows him to inspire students and apprentices through real-life experiences on railway engineering sites.
Dave is also dedicated to recruiting new STEM Ambassadors within the company and we are excited to see where this will lead!
STEM Ambassadors contribute to breaking down stereotypes, by showing that anyone can succeed in STEM with the right support and passion, ambassadors promote diversity and inclusion within these industries. Additionally, their efforts help to address the growing demand for skilled STEM professionals, ultimately strengthening national economies and driving innovation.
