Nothing, the STEM Ambassadors Programme is free to all state funded schools. The STEM Ambassadors are all volunteers who give their free time to work with schools and young people.
Yes, STEM Ambassadors will work with any school if there are children between the ages of 4 and 18. They will also work with youth and community groups.
We have a large pool of STEM Ambassadors and different volunteers do different activities. Common activities include large assemblies on careers or a specific topic, hands-on workshops, after school clubs and careers fairs although there are many other activities that take place.
It’s all done online. Go to www.stem.org.uk You will need to login to the site and creating an account is free, if you don’t have one already click ‘register’ and when prompted click on ‘teacher/school’ account.
To request a STEM Ambassador, click on ‘Activities’ on the left hand side of your dashboard, and then ‘Add Activity’. This will bring up a form for all the details of your request. Once the form is completed click on ‘Add this Activity’ at the bottom and then ‘publish’ and this will allow STEM Ambassadors to view and volunteer for the event.
You’ll receive and email from STEM telling you that you have a volunteer and to login to your account. There will be a link in the email to click or you can view your activities by clicking ‘Activities’ and then ‘Upcoming Activities’ from your dashboard. Once you’ve loaded up the activity any volunteers will be shown at the bottom of the page. You can message them by clicking the down arrow on the right hand side of their name.
We ask that you give us a minimum of 4-6 weeks’ notice so that we can fully promote your activity and find you STEM Ambassadors to support your activity. If you are planning something further ahead the more notice you can give us the better so feel free to put requests on the system for your events later in the year too.
No, unfortunately not. All requests now need to go through the online system. We’re here to help you, so if you need some advice before you put your request on then drop us a line and we’ll point you in the right direction.
All our STEM Ambassadors are volunteers so we can’t pressure them to do activities. For this reason, we don’t recommend or name specific STEM Ambassadors to you. All requests on the system can be seen by all our volunteers and therefore if they’re available and able to help then they’ll volunteer.
