The North East STEM Hub is a great team of education and STEM specialist who are passionate about inspiring the next generation into the world of STEM.  

STEM Ambassador HUb

The team at the North East STEM Hub run the North East STEM Ambassador Hub, covering Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley.

The team help to facilitate STEM Ambassadors from a wide range of STEM backgrounds, volunteering their time and support to promote STEM subjects and inspire our young learners. Using a vast range of original, creative, practical and engaging methods these STEM role models help young people truly understand the real world applications of STEM subjects. With a network of over a thousand dedicated and inspiring volunteers in the North East, the North East STEM Hub works hard to support the STEM curriculum, raise awareness of STEM careers as well as motivate and bring learning to life.

The STEM Ambassador Hub works in close partnership with our local Science Learning Partnerships (SLPs) who provide a fantastic and wide range of teacher CPD and curriculum support.


Our dedicated team of experienced education and STEM professionals are always on hand to deliver the best customer experience and to support our Schools and Ambassadors. We all have a passion to move STEM forward and spark curiosity in every young person we work with.

As a STEM team leader with over 25 years of experience of working with schools and colleges, Janine is well versed in the education arena. Janine’s main role is to oversee team direction and business development although currently her favourite activity is being a student mentor and working alongside her fantastic mentees. Business Development Manager

Claire is responsible for managing relationships between the North East STEM Hub and local schools and colleges. Claire joins us having spent over 25 years in the STEM arena in the North East working across the region on various STEM initiatives. Most recently, she ran her own business Fusion STEM offering bespoke support to local schools and STEM organisations. Prior to this Claire was the STEM Outreach Coordinator at Science Learning Centre North East.

Partner Liaison Coordinator

Liaising and working through hundreds of applications, DBS renewals and arranging inductions with our industry partners Dawn has a keen eye for detail ensuring our NE STEM Ambassadors have an enjoyable experience from application to induction. In relation to schools Dawn works alongside the Hub team to make sure teachers and schools can identify and articulate their needs, thus closing the gap between education and industry. Josh Minto - Illustrations

Josh Minto

Education Relationships Manager

In his previous role, Josh worked for the Nissan Skills Foundation where he was involved in the preparation and delivery of various STEM project sessions/events. Through this role, he worked closely with both primary and secondary school teachers by acting as a mentor for teams competing in regional and national competitions such as First Lego League and Vex Robotics. Josh graduated from the University of Sunderland in 2021 with a BA Hons degree in Childhood Studies, where he wrote his dissertation on “Why are there fewer girls participating in STEM subjects at GCSE?”

Mentoring Programme Administrator

Trish brings a wealth of expertise in the administration and project monitoring area to the team. Her role includes the recruitment and management of volunteer mentors, supporting the training of mentors, developing relationships with participating schools, supporting programme PR and regional publicity as well as measuring activity impact, reporting and delivery development. Rob Stobie - Illustrations

Rob Stobie

Enrichment Partnership Coordinator

Working specifically on the Nuffield Research Placements Programme Rob will works alongside host organisations to provide targeted students an engaging, hands-on research placement that develops confidence, helps apply skills and knowledge developed at school whilst also discovering possible career paths as they work alongside researchers and industry professionals. Rob spent many years in the RAF before moving into a career as a Secondary Maths Teacher, helping to mold and grow the next generation.
