My Energy Future powered by OPITO, a global leader in energy workforce safety, will be sponsoring the Energy Zone at STEMFest Sunderland this October. This event, coordinated by the STEM Hub, delivered by RTC North, aims to encourage and inspire young people from local schools in the STEM subjects, aligning with OPITO's commitment to promoting STEM education and developing a skilled, diverse future workforce for the energy sector.
Held in partnership with the Foundation of Light, STEMFest will take place from 8th to 10th October at the iconic Beacon of Light in Sunderland. The lively three-day festival will welcome students aged 9-13, who will have the opportunity to explore a series of engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) themed zones, focused around the regions growing sectors, including Space, Cyber and Technology, E-Sports, Energy, and Manufacturing.
With the low-carbon economy expected to grow by 11% every year until 2030, the UK is likely to see 100,000 new energy jobs created, including 4,500 in new roles. This transformation will extend across all sectors of the energy industry, as we seek to create a sustainable energy mix for the future. My Energy Future powered by OPITO aims to highlight these new opportunities to young people to encourage them to be part of the solution.
Faye Sherriffs, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at OPITO comments:
“My Energy Future powered by OPITO is dedicated to inspiring and informing the next generation to pursue a career in the global energy industry, to help share a sustainable energy mix for the future. Our commitment to initiatives like STEMFest reflects our passion for educating and informing young people about the diverse career paths in our industry. We are delighted to support this initiative, which offers a hands-on way to learn about STEM activities.”
Businesses in the North East's STEM sectors are invited to participate in this event, designed to inspire and encourage young people to explore careers in these fields. With over 3,000 students expected to attend, the event aims to bridge the gap between education and industry, fostering connections and providing inspiration that will shape the future STEM workforce.
Claire Willis, Team Leader at the STEM Hub comments: “We are delighted to welcome My Energy Future powered by OPITO for the first year as a Zone Sponsor for the Energy Zone at STEMFest this October. It’s great to see new companies coming on board and supporting the work of the STEM hub in inspiring the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians. Events like this are very costly to deliver and without the generosity of our sponsors, events like this simply would not happen. We are very grateful to My Energy Future powered by OPTIO and all of our other sponsors in supporting our work with local schools.”
